Kara Anderson, AIA
Director of Architecture
Under Kara’s direction, Sabey has begun a major redevelopment of the tertiary care medical campus it holds in partnership with Swedish Medical Center. The 1.2 million square foot expansion will include medical office, clinic, lab and research space to support the center’s cardiac and neuroscience specializations. Concurrent with this development is the redevelopment of an adjacent commercial property to provide residential space to campus employees.
Sabey Data Centers’ Intergate.Manhattan has emerged as a high-profile office building in addition to being New York City’s premier data center. The limestone façade of the upper fourteen floors of the 32-story building have been replaced by floor to ceiling glass, opening the large floor plates to light and stunning 360 degree views unlike any other in the city. Kara’s team worked closely with Sabey Construction to accomplish the renovation while also developing designs for large tenant improvements and common areas.
She has been instrumental in developing SDC’s highly efficient prototype design that is now a signature feature in its east and west coast campuses. Under her direction, SDC has designed three large data center campuses comprising more than two million square feet of powered shell and modular turnkey facilities.
Prior to joining Sabey, Kara’s design management background included directing design efforts for national development firms while designing and project managing for a large architectural firm where her accounts included many national retailers. That retail flair has brought to Sabey’s developments a clean design aesthetic that is distinctive, humanizing and sleekly efficient. Her mastery of the development perspective complemented by a breadth of experience in building successful client relations, along with her strong understanding of design, present a professional capability that is progressive, versatile and comprehensive.
Ms. Anderson is a licensed architect with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Washington State University.
